Jeepney Drivers Still Waiting For Any Assistance From Nat’l Government

Jeepney Drivers Haven’t Received Any Assistance Yet From National Government

JEEPNEY DRIVERS – FEJODAP President Zenaida Maranan said their jeepney drivers are still waiting for any assistance from the national government.

The only way to stop the 2019 novel coronavirus is for the people to stay indoors. Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte placed Luzon under “enhanced community quarantine” to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

The lockdown affected the daily wage earner the most. Celebrities and rich personalities like Francis Leo Marcos, Angel Locsin, and Bela Padilla have offered a helping hand to the poor families and informal workers.

According to the report, Zenaida Maranan said the mayor of the city of Manila Isko Moreno is the one who has offered relief assistance to the jeepney drivers. She said the actor-turned-politician gave some of them a sack of rice.

“Pagdating sa gobyerno, wala. Pero pagdating sa local government nagpapasalamat kami kay Mayor Isko Moreno na siya agad ang unang-unang tumugon dito noong sinabi ng ating Pangulo na tulungan ang mga mahihirap, ang mga tsuper,” she said.

Based on the report, Zenaida Maranan said they already have submitted the names of their members to DOLE and asked the DSWD to give the assistance directly to the jeepney drivers.

“Alam naman nakaquarantine kami, wag namang pahirapan ‘yung mga drivers,” she said.

Concerned agencies have already approved the COVID-19 emergency cash for PUV drivers said the Department of Transportation.
