Penor Prison Inmates Work 7 Days a Week To Provide Protective Gears for COVID-19 Frontliners

The prison inmates in Kuantan are working seven days a week (Monday to Sunday) just to provide protective gear for frontliners.

Over the past few days, around 18 inmates in Penor Prison are working hard from Monday to Sunday to ensure that the health workers and other frontliners would have personal protective equipment.

The prisoners are producing PPEs from 9 am to 5 pm by measuring, cutting and stitching special material to create protective suits. The inmates want to help the medical personnel helping to fight the coronavirus disease.

Penor Prison director Datuk Abu Hasan Hussain said that they have received 2,000 meters of material to produce a full protective suit. Each gears would require at least five meters to cover the entire body.

“Currently, the workshop continues its operations on Saturdays and Sundays due to the urgent need for PPE following an increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases,” Hussain said.

The inmates could produce at least 20 sets of PPE every day while Prison Women Staff and Wives of Prison Staff Association (Persiap) could generate 525 units of face shields for COVID-19 frontliners.
