PPE Shortage REAL, Not Fake News – Makati Doctor

Makati Doctor Slams Cayetano’s Statement, Says PPE Shortage Is REAL

PPE SHORTAGE IS REAL – Dr. Gia Sison of Makati Med denounced Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s statement regarding Personal Protective Equipments.

Recently, social media lambasted Cayetano for his remarks on PPE shortages being fake news. However, it was revealed that the local media outlet, Rappler, admitted to misquoting the Senator.

Here was Cayetano’s full statement:

There’s a lot of fake news. You know those people spreading fake news, those who say there aren’t enough PPEs or personal protective equipment in a place? I feel bad if you spread fake news, I feel bad for those who really don’t have enough.

Additionally, Cayetano said fake news such as that is bad for places that actually experience shortages. As such, he emphasized that PPE donators would be confused about where to donate.

However, the fact remains that PPE shortages are real and not fake news. For example, Dr. Gia Sison of Makati Med made a Twitter post that read:

Palimos ng PPE. The shortage is REAL and was never fake news!

Likewise, St. Jude Family Hospital also reported shortages of PPE. Furthermore, they went viral after their medical workers were forced to use garbage bags as PPEs.

Last week, hospital employee Tes Depano posted the now-viral photo of the medical workers to call the attention of the Department of Health.

We are calling the attention of DOH or kung sino mang ahensya na maaaring makapag-supply sa amin ng Personal Protective Equipments.

Meanwhile, there are individuals and groups who produce their own PPEs to donate to hospitals and medical workers. As such, a group from Ateneo produced its own PPEs to donate to the following hospitals:

  • Ospital ng Makati
  • Rizal Medical Center
  • Community Health Centers in Payatas
