LGUs to Distribute Vegetable Seeds Amid COVID-19 Concerns

VEGETABLE SEEDS – Local government units to distribute vegetable seeds and different kinds of aid amid COVID-19 concern.

Luzon is currently under “enhanced community quarantine” to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease. On Tuesday morning, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed there are now 501 cases and 33 deaths in the country.

The government urged all the people to stay indoors and maintain social distancing. In a previous article, the Department of Agriculture said the basic commodities in Metro Manila could last for a month.

Agri Chief William Dar also encourage the residents in Metro Manila to implement “urban gardening” amid the quarantine period. He believed that this move would prevent people from panic buying since they will have a stable food supply in their homes.

Agricultural Services Division of the Baguio City Veterinary Office took to Facebook to announce that they will distribute vegetable seeds as relief goods. The seeds will be given to barangays in Baguio City. The seeds available include eggplant, okra, spinach, peas, and sitaw.

Residents in Los Baños are also encouraged to have their own garden. Those who are interested can send their details at the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist.

Meanwhile, the authorities in Cabuyao City announced on Facebook that they will be purchasing crops from the local farmers and give it to the residents. In this way, the villagers will receive fresh vegetables while the farmers will have income.

We can all hope that health experts would finally develop the vaccine that would end the coronavirus pandemic.
