Big Businesses Donates P1.5 Billion To Feed Poor In Metro Manila
BIG BUSINESSES – The country’s top businesses donated P1.5 billion to help feed the poor in Metro Manila during the community quarantine triggered by the coronavirus.
Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte ordered to block land, air and sea travels in Luzon due to the novel coronavirus threat. The “enhanced community quarantine” is until April 14.
Thousands of workers in Metro Manila are now under work suspension due to the quarantine. The front liners are among those exempted from the work-from-home arrangement.
Companies, celebrities, and individuals have offered their helping hand to help the poor during the pandemic. Stars Bela Padilla, Pokwang and Alden Richards have supported those who are affected by the crisis.
Based on a report from Esquire, big businesses in the Philippines raised over P1.5 billion to help feed the poor in Metro Manila amid the community quarantine brought by the coronavirus.
Project Ugnayan released a statement on March 22 saying they will give P1000 gift certificates to over 1 million households affected by the community quarantine.
“In compliance with social distancing guidelines, gift certificates delivered door-to-door will be redeemable for food items from accessible groceries and supermarkets”
The group tapped ABS-CBN’s Pantawid ng Pag-Ibig and Caritas Manila’s Project Damayan for the distribution of the gift certificates. The businesses that support Project Ugnayan are:
