Catholic Churches Across Rome Closed Until April 3 Due To Coronavirus

ROME: Pope Francis’ vicar for the Rome archdiocese, Cardinal Angelo De Donatis said Catholic Churches across Rome will close until April 3 due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) threat.

The novel coronavirus is now a pandemic. There are now 127,000 confirmed cases globally and 4,700 deaths. Lots of events around the globe are canceled to combat the deadly virus from Wuhan, China.

Several countries have enforced a total lockdown amid the growing concern over the virus. In a previous article, the release date of the films “Mulan” and “Fast and Furious F9” postponed amid the pandemic. The new release date for Vin Diesel’s fil is now set for April 2, 2021.

Based on a report from Eagle News, on Thursday, March 12, the Vatican also took precautionary measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus. The Vatican released a statement saying they’ve decided to close all Catholic Churches across the Rome following the numerous deaths across Italy.

Pope Francis’ vicar for the Rome archdiocese, Cardinal Angelo De Donatis said the Catholic churches will reopen for the faithful when the Italian government lifted the banning of public gatherings on April 3.

“The faithful are consequently exempt from their obligation to fulfill the festive precept,” he said.

According to the report, the churches and religious buildings will be temporarily closed to the public. It added that their monasteries would remain open to “communities that habitually use them as residents.”

“This provision is for the common good,” Angelo De Donatis wrote.
