Duterte Declares Public Health Emergency Following Cases of Local Coronavirus Transmission
DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has declared a nationwide public health emergency following the case of coronavirus local transmission.
The Philippines is currently on a tough fight against the novel coronavirus or (COVID-19). There are new confirmed cases in the country.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has declared a state of public health emergency due to the virus from China. He signed the executive order on Monday, March 9. The public health emergency refers to the “occurrence of an imminent threat of an illness or health condition which could pose a high probability of a large number of deaths…widespread exposure to an infectious agent.”
Based on a report from GMA News, Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said they will release a copy of the EO during his Malacañang press briefing.
“Napirmahan na, ire-release na naming ‘yung executive order,” he said.
According to the report, Salvador Panelo said among the possible effects of Dutertes EO are the faster procurement process for medical equipment and price freezes on basic commodities.
DOH Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario said patients who are suspected to have the virus would face sanctions if they refuse to undergo quarantine.
Based on the report, over the weekend, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go said the president has agreed to declare a public health emergency following the sudden increase of COVID-19 cases in the country.
On Sunday, the DOH announced that the Philippine now has 10 confirmed cases. In a previous article, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte announced that there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the city. She said the patient is a resident of the 1st District of Quezon City.
