The spread of COVID-19 had exploded globally with South Korea being the new hotspot for the disease. Because of the outbreak, the country had been placed under red alert.

Meanwhile, according to ta report from ABS-CBN, a pet dog of a coronavirus patient in Hong Kong tested positive for COVID-19. Authorities say this is a likely case of human-to-animal transmission.

The Pomeranian that belonged to a 60-year-old woman tested for “weak positive” for COVID-19 when it was quarantined at an animal shelter.

Based on the findings of the city’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), the dog had a “low-level of infection”. However, it had yet to show any symptoms of the virus.

In Hong Kong, new measures were implemented last Friday. This meant all pets infected with COVID-19 are to be placed under quarantine for 14 days, much like humans are.

Currently, two dogs have been placed in isolation. As per the report, the other dog belonged to a coronavirus patient that tested negative for the disease and would be released after final testing.

Following this, the AFCD spokesman stated:

Apart from maintaining good hygiene practices, pet owners need not be overly concerned and under no circumstances should they abandon their pets
