PH Gov’t Prepares To Repatriate Over 500 Filipinos Aboard Japan Cruise Ship

PH GOV’T PREPARES TO REPATRIATE – The Philippine Embassy in Japan is set to repatriated over 500 Filipinos aboard Diamond Princess.

The Japan Cruise Ship was quarantined off the Yokohoma, Japan after a passenger tested positive for the new coronavirus, COVID-19. As the testing of passengers continued, 27 Filipinos were found positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) stated that the embassy in Tokyo was in talks with the Philippine and Japanese government agencies. In addition, the World Health Organization was approached, as well as the ship manager, Princess Cruises.

This was to ensure that the needs of the Filipino crew and passengers were met. In addition to facilitating their return home to the Philippines.

According to an article from Inquirer, the details of the operation would be disclosed during the meeting of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

As per the article, all infected Filipinos aboard the Diamond Princess were all crew members. Along with this, only 7 Filipinos aboard are passengers, with the rest being crew members.

Following this, the DFA stated that the Japanese Ministry of Health Announced the results of the coronavirus test would be available by the end of the quarantine.

The moment the Filipinos aboard the Diamond Princess arrive in the Philippines, they are still required to undergo a 14-day quarantine as a precaution against the possible spread of the virus.

Assistant Health Secretary Maria Rosario Vegeire stated that the new quarantine is needed due to the fact the Filipinos aboard were not infected at the same time.
