Phivolcs Issues Updated Post Mayon Volcano on Alert Level 2

FACT CHECK – The report regarding the updated post of Phivolcs announcing that Mayon Volcano is under alert level 2 circulates online.

As of 8:00 am on Monday morning (January 13, 2020), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology issued an updated post regarding Mayon Volcano on its website.

According to the post, Phivolcs announced that Mt. Mayon remains under alert level 2. The volcano is under alert level 2 since 2018 and it is still under a moderate level of unrest. It could have explosions, lava collapses, and ashfall.

Mayon volcano bulletin update also said that no volcanic earthquakes have been detected during the 24-hour observation period but moderate emission of white steam-laden plumes has been found.

The volcanology agency also prohibits the entry into the six kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone or PDZ and a precautionary seven kilometer-radius Extended Danger Zone or EDZ.

However, the seismology agency was not yet giving further updates and details regarding Mayon Volcano’s state.
