Farmer’s Son Who Couldn’t Afford Review Class, Top 9 on Criminology Exam
An inspiring story of a farmer’s son who fought poverty to achieve his goal, lands at top 9 in November 2019 Criminology Licensure Exam (CLE).
Another Filipino proved that poverty is not a barrier to success after taking the 9th place in the past criminology licensure exam. The son of the farmer is 21-year-old Adrian Mandawe, of Zamboanga del Sur.
Fortunately, after graduating from Western Mindanao State University, Adrian was unable to complete the review course and was only attend 15 days due to lack of financial. He said it was the “most that our family could afford.” That already cost his family up to P8,000.
Born 6th among 7 siblings, Adrian’s parents had been farming all their lives. All he ever wanted was to save his family from poverty and give them a better life.
Fueled with his determination to pass the board exam, Adrian went on to study on his own. He said in an interview with the Inquirer, he studied 12 hours daily for five months to prepare for the exam he took in Cagayan de Oro last November.
Adrian’s hard work paid off as he scored an 89.80 rating, landing him top 9 among the more than 19,000 passers in the November 2019 Criminology board exam. Adrian admitted he was actually hoping to land top 1 but was pleased he still managed to enter the top 10.
“I am the first professional in the family and all I want is to uplift our living condition,” Adrian told the Inquirer. His parents are both farmers and he is the only one in his family to have a college degree.
He may have been aiming for the Top 1 but, he is still happy with the position he has been trying to achieve. He advised those who wish to rise above life, “Aim high since dreaming is free.”
