Iran had announced that it had accidentally shot down the Ukranian passenger jet and blamed it on human error. They said that it was because the plane made an unexpected sharp turn towards a military base.

The announcement had reversed Iran’s previous claim that the crash was caused by a mechanical issue. In the crash, all 176 people aboard the plane were killed.

According to an article by the New York Times, the Iranian Military stated that the plane took a posture and altitude of an enemy target. They added that under this circumstance, the plane took fire because of human error.

Recently, American and European intelligence revealed that it was an Iranian missile that took down the plane. However, they stated that it was likely because of an accident.

In addition, the plane crash was just hours after Iran fired dozens of ballistic missiles at two Iraqi bases housing American troops.

Following the crash, Official Iranian news and media merely cited technical problems as the cause. The Iranian Civil Aviation Organization chief also doubled down on that statement.

He said that nothing could be determined until the data from the plane’s black boxes were analyzed.
