Iranian Missiles Likely Cause Of Ukrainian Plane Crash In Iran
IRAN PLANE CRASH – As tensions rose between the US and Iran, a Ukranian jet crashed moments after taking off from Tehran.
The horrific incident took the lives of all 176 people aboard the plane. According to initial reports, the crash was blamed on engine failure.
The plane had taken off from Imam Khomeini International Airport, the report said. The crash is suspected to have been caused by mechanical issues, it added, without elaborating.
However, new evidence suggested that the plane appeared to have been brought down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile. Based on a report from USA Today, intelligence indicated that it was an accident.
According to the report, the Iranian military accidentally shot down the Ukrainian jet with a Russian-supplied anti-aircraft missile. This was according to a U.S. official who was not authorized to disclose information publicly.
The Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 crashed early Wednesday shortly after Iran launched dozens of ballistic missiles on two Iraqi bases housing US troops.
This was made in retaliation for the death of Qasem Soleimani, one of Iran’s top Generals. Soleimani was killed in a drone strike executed by the United States.
The official said that U.S. intelligence sensors revealed that Iranian air-defense radar locked onto the Ukrainian plane. Following this, Iran’s military fired two SA-15 surface-to-air missiles and took down the plane.
However, it was still unclear whether or not the Ukranian passenger plane was mistaken as a threat. In addition, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also believed that a missile caused the crash.
On Thursday, US President Donald Trump said he found the plane crash suspicious. He added that “somebody could have made a mistake on the other side”.
