According to Inquirer, the eastern section of Metro Manila is said to be one of the least serviced areas in the National Capital Region in terms of public transportation.

The 15.6-kilometer rapid transit line, called Metro Rail Transit Line 4 is to link the said area.

Targeted to be fully operational by the year 2025, it was approved by the Investment Coordination Committee-Cabinet Committee in a meeting held on December 20.

According to the statement from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), once completed, the line will link Quezon City, San Juan, Mandaluyong and Pasig with the nearby towns of Cainta and Taytay in Rizal province.

This will also become the second railway that will serve Rizal province after the extension of the Light Rail Transit 2 to Masinag. The project os set to be constructed from 2021 to 2025 and is expected to cost around ₱59.3 billion.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said that this would greatly aid connect the eastern metropolis to the province of Rizal and at the same time, address the worsening traffic conditions in the said area.

Based on the report, the Public-Private Partnership Center said that the line’s right-of-way alignment rins across the Ortigas Business District, which is known for its lack of public and mass transport options.

“Considering how densely populated these areas are, which is made more difficult by the lack of road capacities and ever-worsening traffic conditions, the MRT 4 will be of great help in moving commuters,”
