Angkas Possible to be Backlisted in Motorcycle Taxi Program Amid Violations
The Angkas motorcycle taxi company may be blacklisted and will not be allowed to operate for violations of some of the provisions in the government’s ongoing pilot study for motorcycle taxis.
“Meron kasi
kaming sinet na guidelines at nandun sa guidelines ‘yung provision for
blacklisting. Very possible for them to be blacklisted on their violation of the guidelines,” said by
Inter-Agency Motorcycle Taxi Technical Working Group (TWG) chairman at member
ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) na si Antonio
Gardiola.
According to the report of GMA News, Gardiola said that although Angkas is still allowed to participate in the extended motorcycle taxi pilot implementation program, it may no longer allow its operations once regulations are introduced in the motorcycle industry.
“Once the government legalized the industry, Angkas’ application may be challenged,” he said.
Angkas’ violations include traveling to places not covered by pilot testing areas. The LTFRB operatives allegedly found “mystery passengers” flying into Cagayan De Oro (CDO) and General Santos City.
“First is the pilot areas which are areas na dinetermine ng TWG ay Cebu only and Metro Manila. But then it was confirmed already…through the operation of the LTFRB in CDO that they were operating… that they were hailing passengers. They are also operating in General Santos City,” Gardiola said.
He also added “That is one blatant violations of the guidelines…clearly violating the guidelines of the TWG.”
TWG said Angkas has many other violations including the use of unauthorized safety gear and ongoing charges of surge fees.
The extended pilot test run is until March 23, 2020. TWG will then submit to Congress the data gathered in the study to decide if motorcycle taxis will pass as a new public utility vehicle.
