Davao del Sur Hit by Earthquake with 4.3 Magnitude

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 4.3 magnitude quake in Davao del Sur today, December 16, 2019.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.

Recently, a quake has hit a part of Davao del Sur. At 03:02 am today, December 16, 2019, Matanao was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3. Instrumental intensities were recorded of the said quake.

Earthquake

According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Southern Leyte was located at 06.70°North, 125.20°East – 006 km South 57° West of Matanao. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 009 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated that there are no damages and aftershocks expected from the quake. The following instrumental intensities were recorded:

  • Intensity IV – Kidapawan City
  • Intensity III – Koronadal City; Tupi, South Cotabato
  • Intensity II – General Santos City; Alabel, Sarangani
  • Intensity I – Kiamba, Sarangani
