Filipino artistic gymnast Carlos Yulo has brought pride to the Filipinos after winning bronze and gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. He is the first-ever Asian male to win the said competition.
The 19-year-old athletes’ triumph secured him to compete for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. He is among the Filipino athletes who will be representing the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Based on a report from Rappler, Carlos Yulo admitted that he felt nervous performing in his own country since most of the audience pay more attention to the Filipino athletes.
“I was nervous to be performing here in my home country but I’m happy… It’s quite different. Here, the crowd gives more attention to the Philippine team. In Germany, nobody knows me. So I’m just doing my thing,” he said,
The young athlete got a boost from the audience as he showed off his champion form. According to the report, he captured the gold medal in the individual all-around edition of the men’s artistic gymnastics in the 2019 SEA Games. The sporting event was held at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on December 1.
