Philippine Coast Guard Rescues Stranded Barge In Negros Oriental

PHILIPPINE COAST GUARD – The Central Visayas division of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG 7) rescued a stranded motor barge in Negros Oriental.

According to Sun Star, BRP Suluan, the coast guard’s vessel, towed Motor Barge Tamban safely at the Dapitan Bay in Zamboanga del Norte.

PCG 7’s spokesperson Lieutenant Junior Grade Michael John Encina, disclosed that they learned upon investigation that the barge docked at the port of Sibulan in Negros Oriental around 7:30 PM on November 26.

Their anchor, however, was dragged due to the strong currents in the area and was drifting for nearly two days. Encina aded that they were able to contact PCG for help at around 2 AM on November 28 (Thursday).

The PCG’s rescue vessel, which was docked at Cagayan de Oro, immediately proceeded to the area which was about 120 nautical miles away from the stranded barge.

Based on the report, he rescue vessel was able to make first contact at about 6:30 AM of the same day.

“120 NM is almost equivalent to 200 km. Initially, hindi abot sa radio nila yung PCG 7,”

Four crew members were safely rescued and were given medical attention while the barge were secured.
