According to reports from ABS-CBN, the projectiles were launched eastwards from South Hamgyong province. It then fell in the Sea of Japan.

With this, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs (JCS) said that the launch was carried out around 16:50 pm local time. It was also North Korea’s 2-year anniversary of the first test of their Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile.

Analyst claimed that this missile could reach the entire United States mainland. However, Pyongyang is banned from firing ballistic missiles under UN Security Council Resolutions.

Because of this, Japanese Prime Minister Shizo Abe cited that this was the North’s latest in a slew of violations. “North Korea’s repeated launches of ballistic missiles are a serious defiance to not only our country but also the international community“, he said.

As per the report, the US, the State Department officials said that they are monitoring the situation and consulting allies in the region.

The launch came after Pyongyang fired their “super-large multiple rocket launcher” system in the previous month. With this, the JCS stated that the latest devices were assumed to be a similar type.

In addition, the JCS said that the recent projectiles flew 380 kilometers and reached a max altitude of 97 kilometers.

North Korea has been given multiple sets of international sanctions because of its nuclear weapon and ballistic missile programs. But, talks of denuclearization is still on a standstill.

In the previous month, Pyongyang also claimed to have tried out a new type of submarine-launched ballistic missiles. This could then be a potential strategic game-changer.
