Cordillera On Red Alert As Typhoon Ramon Nears
TYPHOON RAMON – Authorities of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) have advised residents in landslide-prone areas to evacuate as Typhoon Ramon draws near.
Ramon is set to bring heavy rains and strong winds in parts of CAR. Some residents have prepared their important documents like birth certificates, sealed in plastic envelopes.
With this, the Office of Civil Defence (OCD) in Cordillera is now on red alert status. This is to monitor the effects of the incoming typhoon.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, the tropical cyclone winds signal (TCWS) signal number 3, was elevated over CAR. Along with this, other regions were under signal number 2, these include:
- Apayao
- Ilocos Norte
- Isabela
- Kalinga
Meanwhile, signal number 1 was raised in:
- Abra
- Batanes
- Benguet
- Ifugao
- Ilocos Sur
- La Union
- Mountain Province
- Pangasinan
- Rest of Isabela
Because of the impending cyclone, OCD Chief Frankie Cortez told the local government units to conduct a preemptive evacuation. The PDRRMC had also reported that 4 families in Kalinga have already evacuated.
With this, Apayao Gov. Eleanor Bulut-Begtang had ordered authorities to implement a preemptive and forced evacuation in typhoon-affected areas.
Recently, the province had already declared a state of calamity. This was following the damages brought by Typhoon Quiel.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also stated that relief packs had been set for easy access. However, in Baguio City, vendors had set up stalls along the road despite possible downpours.
Ramon was last seen at about 120 kilometers east of the tow of Calayan, Cagayan.
The typhoon is packed with maximum sustained winds of about 120 kilometer per hour and gusts of up to 150 kilometers per hour and it moves at west northwest at about 10 kilometers per hour.
