Filipino Language & Culture Being Taught At University In Germany

UNIVERSITY IN GERMANY – Humboldt University, one of the premier college-level institutions in Germany, started including Filipino language in their curriculum.

According to the Philippine Embassy in Germany, the class is headed by language instructor, Antonio Galang Jr. from the University of the Philippines. The class is offered in their winter term.

The language program is also one of the major components of the Philippine studies program of the German University. Adding to this, the director of the program is also a Filipino, Dr. Rosa Cordillera Castillo.

The language program is one of the major components of the Philippine Studies program launched in July 2019 and overseen by Humboldt University’s Institute of Asian and African Studies in partnership with the Philippine Embassy in Germany

The funding of the program was also possible through the efforts and assistance of Deputy Speaker, Loren Legarda under the funds of the Department of Foreign affairs.

Humboldt University can be located at the central borough of Mitte in Berlin, Germany. It is also one of the oldest Universities as it was established in 1809.

The German University also had a plethora of notable alumni and faculty. Some of them include some of the most renowned philosophers and sociologists like Adelbert von Chamisso, Karl Marx, Max Weber, and physicist Albert Einstein.

Based on an article from ABS-CBN, aside from Germany, there is also a school in China that offers a course in Philippine Studies. There, they also learn about the Filipino language.
