Vilma Santos has this reaction to the ABS-CBN franchise issue
House Deputy Speaker Vilma Santos-Recto, also known as the Star for all Season, gave her reaction on the ABS-CBN franchise issue.
The franchise of the Kapamilya network is set to end this March 2020 and its renewal became an issue since President Rodrigo Duterte was vocal about his side regarding the issue. However, based on the report from Inquirer, Presidential Spokesperson Panelo clarified that the threat from the President of blocking the franchise were mere expressions of displeasure.
With this, Santos-Recto, who filed one of the five bills renewing the network’s franchise, said that she will leave the matter to the “sound discretion” of her fellow congressmen. She welcomed the statement of Panelo regarding the “exclusive power of Congress in the issuance and renewal of Franchise under existing policy.”
“Ang sabi ko nga, let’s wait for the action of the Committee on Legislative Franchise regarding ABSCBN renewal, when we go back this November,” Ate Vi said. It is known to many that the Star for all Season has worked with the Kapamilya network for several years already.
Based on the report, the bill seeking for the franchise of ABS-CBN was filed on the 17th Congress and it remained pending since November 2016. The 18th Congress started last July and House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez stated that it was still unsure if the lower chamber would commit to process the proposed bill for ABS-CBN franchise. Then, it remained pending once again until October 3, when the Congress went on a break. The session will resume on November 4.
