Helpful Cops Give Free Rides To Commuters Affected by the Nationwide Transport Strike

On Monday (September 30, 2019), different transport groups held a nationwide transport strike in the Philippines to show their opposition to the proposed Jeepney modernization that aims to totally phase out jeepneys by 2020.

Transport groups such as Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Piston), members of the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (ACTO) and Stop and GO joined the protest.

The groups opposed the government’s modernization program that requires 15 years old vehicles comply with Euro 4 standards to cut off harmful emissions. The modernization program would affect around 240,000 jeepneys and 80,000 UV Express service vehicles.

The nationwide strike causes inconvenience to thousands of Filipino commuters throughout the country, which prompted numerous schools and universities to declare class suspensions due to lack of transportation vehicles.
