A report from Inquirer states that the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority EDSA Traffic Head Bong Nebrija thinks that the proposal may not be practical.

The proposal Nebrija reacted was from former Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) consultant Arison Gorosp which states that they should implement a coding scheme in EDSA based on car brands.

In the proposal, the following brands will not enter EDSA on the following days:

  • Monday
    • Toyota
  • Tuesday
    • Mitsubishi
    • Hyundai
    • Isuzu
  • Wednesday
    • Nissan
    • Ford
    • Foton
  • Thursday
    • Honda
    • Chevrolet
    • Mazda
    • Subaru
  • Friday
    • Suzuki
    • Kia
    • Volkswagen
    • Mercedez Benz
  • Saturday
    • JAC
    • Tata
    • Audi
    • BAIC
  • Sunday
    • Mini and Lotus
    • Volvo
    • Ssangyong
    • other car brands

Nebrija noted that if it will be implemented, the agency have to train its personnel on spotting car brands, adding that it will be hard for them to spot a car brand.

Nebrija further said that their enforcers are hardly car owners themselves, thus, it would be a strenuous task to do.

As per the report, the EDSA traffic head rendered the proposal “far off”, adding that there will be a lot of engineering intervention that needs to be done if it will be implemented.

For him, the increase of alloted lanes in EDSA might actually help solve traffic congestion. He said, however, that city buses will dominate the thoroughfare if the proposal will be implemented.

““Right now they have two, that’s 40 percent of Edsa. Now were trying to give them three, that’s 60 percent. It could work but what I’ve been telling we’ve already given them two, they’ve already taken three,”

“Give them three, they would take four, and sooner or later, we would find out that Edsa has been taken over by city buses,”
