LUNG CONDITIONS – Here are the various types of conditions and diseases of the lungs that you should probably be aware of.
In order to keep your lungs healthy, we listed down some lung-friendly foods to help you take care of the organ that’s responsible why we respire and breathe. Without lungs, we can’t live. Thus, we have to do something to improve it and look after its health.
Now, if we look pass our lungs health and take it for granted, here are some possible ailments we could obtain:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – This results to shortness in breathing and smoking as the most common cause.
- Emphysema – The alveoli is damaged making it difficult for you to breathe.
- Chronic bronchitis – This causes productive coughing where breathing is also difficult.
- Pneumonia – Infection in one or both lungs caused by bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae.
- Asthma – Allergies, viral infections, or air pollution triggers asthma.
- Acute bronchitis – The bronchi, lungs’ large airways gets infected.
- Pulmonary fibrosis – The interstitium becomes stiff causing shortness in breathing.
- Sarcoidosis – An inflammation that can affect all body organs including the lungs most of the time.
- Obesity hypoventilation syndrome – This is caused by extra weight.
- Pleural effusion – This is when fluid builds up in the space between the lung and inside the chest wall.
- Pleurisy – An inflammation in pleura that can cause pain in breathing.
- Bronchiectasis – One of its symptoms include coughing with mucus.
- Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) – A rare condition where cysts are formed all throughout the lungs.
- Interstitial lung disease – This is where the interstitium becomes diseased.
- Lung cancer – This is caused by smoking.
- Tuberculosis – This is caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis with common symptoms such as chronic cough, fever, weight loss, and night sweats.
- Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) – A severe and sudden injury of the lungs.
- Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (allergic alveolitis) – An allergic reaction caused by inhaled dust.
- Influenza (flu) – An infection from one of more flu viruses.
- Mesothelioma – This is a rare form of cancer.
- Pertussis (whooping cough) – This causes persistent coughing.
- Pulmonary embolism – Sudden shortness of breath is the most common symptom.
- Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) – A severe pneumonia which led to worldwide prevention measures. This was discovered in 2002 in Asia as per WebMD.
- Pneumothorax– Abnormal entering of air in the lungs.
