Duterte Visits, Offers Aid To Family, Survivors Of Guimaras Iloilo Sea Tragedy

DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte offer aid to the family and victims of the Guimaras-Iloilo incident.

On Saturday, three wooden boats capsized in Iloilo strait due to the bad weather. They are just a few meters away from their destination when the strong tidal current occurred.

In a previous article, the Philippine Coast Guard recorded 31 casualties from the sea tragic incident.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said they have to relieve the 4 PCG and 2 MARINA officials from post to give way to the investigation. He explained that the people who are involved in the sea incident should not be involved during the probe.

“Para lang ho magkaroon nang konting objectivity at malalim na imbestigasyon, ginawa namin yung nararapat na kung saan kahapon ho sabi namin yung mga na-involved dito sa lugar na ‘to tumabi-tabi muna, relieve muna,” he said.

Meanwhile, Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte decided to visit and offer some help to the families of the victims and the survivors of the sea tragedy. He was accompanied by Senator Christopher “Bong” Go in Iloilo.

Based on a report from ABS- CBN News, grief is marked on the face of the 74-year-old chief executive while listening to the experience of a survivor named Ma. Nieves Grandeza.

Grandeza lost 9 of her boyfriend’s family including their 3-year-old child.

According to the report, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Neneth Pador said their agency give P50,000 to each of the survivors. President Duterte and Sen. Bong Go also give two envelopes to the families of the victims.

Each of the family members receives cellphones and brand new shoes for the kids from Go.

Based on the report, the families of the deceased said Duterte’s visit ease their grief and sadness.

The president is planning to add more air and water assets to improve the emergency rescue operations in the region.
