Tropical Storm Hanna Intensifies Into Typhoon, PAGASA Says

The state weather bureau PAGASA announced that the Tropical Storm Hanna has intensified into a typhoon and placed Batanes and Babuyan Island under Signal No.1.

On Wednesday (August 7, 2019), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released the latest weather updates in the country.

PAGASA said that Typhoon Hanna has now maximum winds of 120 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 150 kph moving 10 kph at a west-northwest direction. Hanna was last spotted at 625 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.

The weather agency raised Tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 over the Batanes and Babuyan group of islands due to the effects of Typhoon Hanna.

Typhoon Hanna is also enhancing the southwest monsoon or locally known as Habagat bringing an inclement weather condition over Luzon and Visayas.

Hanna is the first tropical cyclone to reach the typhoon level in the Philippines but it is not expected to make landfall.

The typhoon is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday (August 9, 2019).

The weather bureau also warned the fisher folks in the areas under signal no.1 that sea travel remains risky.
