Tropical Storm Hanna Expected To Intensify Into Typhoon, PAGASA Says

The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that Tropical Storm Hanna is expected to intensify into a typhoon as it moves closer to the province of Batangas.

On Monday (August 5, 2019), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather updates. PAGASA said that the Tropical Storm Lekima or locally known as ‘Hanna’ and the southwest monsoon would continue to affect the country’s weather condition.

Bagyong Hanna was last spotted at 940 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan moving towards Batangas Province, which was struck by series of earthquakes last week.

Tropical Storm Hanna

Hanna has maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It was expected to intensify into a typhoon after reaching 575 kilometers east of northeast of Batanes.

The tropical storm enhances the southwest monsoon, which would bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Cavite, Batangas, and Mimaropa.

The enhanced southwest monsoon would also bring cloudy weather conditions with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, Western Visayas and the rest of CALABARZON.

Hanna’s trough would also bring cloudy conditions with scattered rain showers in Cagayan Valley. The localized thunderstorms would affect the rest of Visayas and Mindanao.

The weather agency also advised the public to take precautionary measures for possible flashfloods and landslides during severe thunderstorms,

The weather disturbance is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday (August 9, 2019).
