Pres. Duterte Initially Warned To Not Grace the SONA 2019 Over An Incident in His Past SONA
DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte initially warned that he will not attend his State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2019 which is set today, July 22.
Today, the President of the Philippines is set to deliver at Batasang Pambansa his 4th State of the Nation Address or SONA. It is a perfect time when he can present the accomplishments under his administration.
According to Malacañang, in his fourth SONA, the President will talk about drugs, corruption, and the territorial disputes between China and the Philippines among others.
The Palace has previously expressed that the President is set to deliver a short speech for the SONA 2019. According to Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, it will not go beyond one(1) hour and twenty(20) minutes.
However, unknown to many, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte has initially warned to not attend the SONA 2019 according to Senator Christopher “Bong” Go.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Go expressed that the President made the warning on Sunday night as he was practicing for the SONA 2019. It was over the speakership issue.
In his previous SONA, the President was not able to have it on time as there was a commotion among the representatives.
Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was elected while then House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez was with the President. It was Alvarez who sat during the SONA and a formal election was held after the event.
Meanwhile, based on the report, Pres. Duterte’s warning to not attend the SONA 2019 will possibly remain a warning as the House has already arrived at a common ground for the speakership.
The House has elected Taguig-Pateros Representative Alan Peter Cayetano as the new House Speaker.
The SONA 2019 will start in a few minutes from now and the House Speaker is expected to be with the President. We will keep you posted for updates.
