Surigao del Norte Hit by Earthquake with 4.7 Magnitude

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 4.7 magnitude quake in Surigao del Sur today, July 8, 2019.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.

Recently, a quake has hit a part of the country. At 08:59 am today, July 8, 2019, Surigao del Sur was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7.

According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Surigao del Sur was located at 09.44° North, 126.21° East – 018 km North 05° East of Cortes. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 027 kilometers.

Intensity I was felt in Palo, Leyte; Borongan, Eastern Samar; and Jamindan, Capiz based on the bulletin posted by Phivolcs on its official Twitter page. Surigao City felt Intensity II.

According to Phivolcs, there are no expected damages caused by the quake and as well as aftershocks.
