Satellite Imagery of Foreign Vessels Entering Philippine EEZ

FOREIGN VESSELS – Here is the satellite imagery of the foreign vessels getting near the Philippine coastline.

The Philippines is known to be among the countries in the world that rich resources. Among the most valuable resources in the country is the petroleum in the West Philippine Sea.

However, the said area was claimed by several countries such as Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Following a previous article, the Philippines is losing about P33 billion per year from the damaged reed because of China’s reclamation activities and illegal fishing.

Satellite images showed that the damaged coral reef at Spratlys Island covered 1,300 hectares and 500 hectares in Scarborough Shoal.

Based on a report from Philstar, countless foreign vessels are entering the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

In fact, some of these sea vessels were seen moving closer to the Philippines’ coastline.

Karagatan Patrol released the satellite imagery from 2016 to 2018. It can be seen on the photos that ships are getting near the provinces at the West Philippine Sea.

Coordinator of Karagatan Patrol Jessie Floren claimed those foreign vessels went to the Philippines’ territory because their country is running out of resources.

“Industrial, commerical scale, exploitation on our EEZ are nearing the coastline… Lumalapit sila dito dahil scarce na ‘yung resources nila,” he said.

It can be seen on the photos he showed that the foreign vessels entering the Philippine waters are increasing every year.

The images he showed were based on the information from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS). The system detects the light of the sea vessels.

However, Karagatan Patrol said their device cannot detect which country the sea vessels came from.

Based on the report, the Philippine Navy and coast guard said those marine vessels might have come from China, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
