In this day and age when information is readily available, the spread of fake information also became rampant in the recent years. Misleading pictures, videos and news articles have made rounds on social media sites and other outlets.

A list of sites that reportedly share fake information was released by CBCP.

To prevent being misled by these faked footages and snaps, we have found tips on how to detect them and decided to share it:

Here are some tips on how to spot a fake video:

MOUTH MOVEMENT

If the person in the video talks too much but the mouth opens only a little, the video could be fake. Intricacies in speech require complex movements of different parts of the mouth to say certain words.

VOICE

Audio editing software are also now available and ready to use making it easier to imitate someone else’s voice. But the pitch, intonation and sometimes original speaker’s mannerisms can be difficult to fake, so check on those.

UNSYNCHRONIZED MOVEMENTS

When you see a clip, where the body moves a little too much for a simple speech. Or the head moves too much but the body remains stable, it could be a sign of video manipulation.

DISTORTED IMAGES FROM CERTAIN ANGLES

If the persona in the video gets distorted in some angles as he/she turns his/her head or body, that is a definite sign that the video is fake. This one is probably the most common giveaway.
