Third Airline

Based on a recent report on The Visayan Daily Star, Sen. Migz Zubiri and Rep. Albee Benitez are now pushing for a third airline to operate for Bacolod-Manila routes.

The Bacolod City airport is located in the city of Silay. It is called the Bacolod-Silay Airport.

Based on the report, businessman Eduardo Alunan expressed that the move is due to the expensive rates that the two airlines operating in the city, Cebu Pacific and the Philippine Airlines (PAL), are implementing.

“This advocacy was borne out of desperation over the predatory rates of Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines, whose round trip rates are as high as P14,000 and P17,000 respectively,” he said.

Reportedly, the businessman also stressed that the abovementioned rates are higher than those for regional flights.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Sen. Zubiri expressed that he will reach out to the approved airlines franchise applications with regards to the matter.

According to Rep. Benitez, he has already told the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) regarding the call for another airline.

As of this writing, there are still no further information over the matter. We’ll keep you posted for updates.
