Masskara Dancers Bags ‘Best Foreign Group’ Awards In South Korea’s Daegu Festival
MASSKARA – Bacolod Masskara dancers were declared as the ‘best foreign group’ awards in South Korea’s Daegu Festival.
Every city in the Philippines has its own astonishing festivals. Local and foreign tourist visits and partake in the merry-making in the festivals in the country.
Festivals also are known as “fiestas” in the country is renowned all over the world.
Among them are the Sinulog Festival in Cebu, Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo, Moriones Festival in Marinduque and Masskara Festival in Bacolod City.
The Masskara meaning ‘mass’ (a multitude of people) and the Spanish word for face ‘cara.’ The city is tagged as the “City of Smiles.”
The dancers of Bacolod Masskara brought pride to the country after winning the Foreign Category of Daego Festival in South Korea.
Based on a report from Aksyon Radyo Bacolod, the festival started was done on May 4 and 5.
Bacolod City Councilor Em Ang said the Masskara Dancers defeated all the 21 group participants in the said category.
According to the report, the Masskara Bacolod Dancers brought home the cash prize worth of P312,000.
The councilor said the dancers prepared their costumes by themselves in just two weeks. Segundo Jesus “Panoy” Cabalcar is the one who choreographed the dancers.
This achievement will surely encourage the young Bacolodnon to participate in the Masskara festival.
