Illegal Structures In Panglao Island Demolished By Resort Owners

Panglao Island Resort Owners Voluntarily Demolished Illegal Structures

ILLEGAL STRUCTURES – In Alona Beach, Panglao Island volunteered resort owners took the initiative to demolish illegal structures.

Last year, resort owners were advised to remove illegal structure within the shoreline of Panglao Island, Bohol. The resort owners were given six months to comply. This is according to an article from The Bohol Chronicle.

Alona Beach, located in Panglao Island, is a white sand beach popular for their scuba diving and snorkeling activities. It is also one of the most visited spots by tourists.

The beach itself is located beside a ‘house reef’ – a reef where wondrous corals and fishes can be seen through the clear water.

However, within the beach’s shoreline were illegally-built structures. The placement of the structures was a violation to the 20-meter salvage zone.

Articulated in the Article 51 of the Presidential Decree No. 1067, or “The Water Code Of The Philippines,” a salvage zone is “…the zone of three (3) meters in urban areas, twenty (20) meters in agricultural areas and forty (40) meters in forest areas, along their margins, subject to the easement of public use in the interest of recreation, navigation, flotage, fishing and salvage.”

Following the advisory, a recent Twitter post by The Inquirer Regions, includes a photo showing people with demolition tools and an excavator digging and apparently removing the said illegal structures.

The photo was posted with the caption:
” LOOK: Resort owners voluntarily demolished illegal structures inside the 20-meter salvage zone on Alona Beach in Panglao Island Monday. “

Within the 20-meter salvage zone, people are also prohibited to stay longer than needed time for recreation, navigation, floatage, fishing or salvage or ‘to build structures of any kind.’

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
