Man Arrested for Allegedly Abusing Dog in Tacloban City
A man accused on maliciously abusing a pet dog during a drinking session in Tacloban City is facing charges under the Animal Welfare Act.
On July 4, 2026, the 50-year-old man identified only as Domeng, had been invited to a gathering at a private house in Barangay 69, Anibong.
According to police reports, the man was drinking with several people when he asked permission to step away for a while, saying he needed to use the restroom.

A few minutes later, the dog owner reportedly heard unusual cries coming from his pet, a brown Dachshund. Concerned by the animal’s distress, he immediately went to check what was happening.
When the owner followed the sound, he allegedly found the suspect abusing the dog. Authorities said the animal suffered injuries to its genital area as a result of the incident.
Police were immediately informed, and the suspect was taken into custody. Instead of returning home after the gathering, he spent the night in detention while authorities prepared the necessary charges against him.
Investigators confirmed that the man is a resident of San Jose, Samar. He is now facing a case for violating Republic Act No. 8485, also known as the Animal Welfare Act, which protects animals from cruelty, abuse, and other harmful acts.
Animal welfare advocates continue to remind the public that pets and other animals deserve proper care and protection. Cases involving animal abuse are treated seriously under Philippine law, and those found responsible may face legal consequences.
