FUR HEROES – Meet the nine K9 who are among the fur heroes who helped the search and rescue ops in Porac, Pampanga.
Several roads, bridges, and establishments were destroyed following the 6.1 magnitude quake on the area.
A 4-story grocery store Chuzon Supermarket in Porac, Pampanga collapsed after the massive earthquake.
In a previous article, the search and rescue operation at the grocery continued after hearing some voices under the ground. Some victims reportedly texted their relatives asking for help.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, nine volunteer rescue dogs or fur heroes are among the search team who helped rescue survivors from the collapsed grocery store.
The search and rescue team discovered 16 dead people and dozens of injured people.
Metropolitan Manila Development and Authority (MMDA) K9 team was composed of Belgian Malinois named Billy (3), German Shepherds Farah (2) and Cody (1), a 5-year-old Jack Russel Terrier, Dutch Shepherds Lucy (1) and Dumbo(4), and Labrador Retrievers Chia (2), Chaplin (5), and Ringo (5).
According to the report, the K9 team helped the rescuers locate an employee of Chuzon Supermarket named Grace Melchor. They also retrieved the ‘dead’ body of May Ann Sales.
The head of MMDA’s K9 team Sheryl Maon-Palcis said the dogs were tired because they were previously deployed in the landslides in Itogon, Benguet and Naga, Cebu.
