Pinoy flutist received recognition at Carl Nielsen International Competition
Pinoy flutist, Rafael Adobas, 21, bagged awards at Carl Nielsen International Competition in Odense, Denmark.
Adobas was hailed as the third placer in the flute division and best interpretation of a new piece.
The young musician shared that he only had 2 months of preparation for the competition after he got the invitation.
“Every performance was a different scenario and with different repertoire – from baroque music, classical, romantic, and contemporary,” Adobas said during an interview with ABS-CBN.
He added, “I had to learn to be flexible each day of every round. I had to acquire a general overview on everything, and yet be totally focused on every piece that I was playing. I had to be sure of what I wanted to express through my music on the moment of my performance.”
500 musicians applied to the Carl Nielsen contest but only 66 young musicians were invited to perform.
During the first round played a commissioned piece written for the competition by Austrian composer Thomas Larcher. He won the best interpretation prize for this and took home €2,000.
He played “Life” in the second round and took the works of Carl Nielsen as his inpiration.
The 21-year-old flutist came from a family of musician. His father Margarito, who was from Leyte, was a guitarist.
Rafael’s elder sister Isabel plays the piano. His younger sister Mary Grace plays the violin while Mary Jane plays the saxophone.
Indeed music runs through their veins. The Pinoy flutist is currently on his fourth year studying Music Performance-Flute at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich in Germany.
