US Urges Philippine Government To Let Maria Ressa, Rappler ‘Operate Freely’
MARIA RESSA – The United States urged the Philippine government to let Maria Ressa and Rappler ‘operate freely.’
The Rappler founder and Chief Executive Officer, Maria Ressa, is among the list of Time magazines’ ‘Person of the Year.’
The journalist is among the outspoken critic of the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. She is against the president’s way of managing the country especially his ‘war on drugs.’

Following a previous article, Maria Ressa was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on March 29, 2019.
The prominent journalist posted bail hours after she was apprehended over her alleged violation of the Anti-Dummy Law.

Based on a report from Philstar, the United States asked the Philippine government to resolve the case of the journalist right away and allow her and Rappler to “operate freely.”

According to the report, the US spokesperson said their country is worried about the arrest of Maria Ressa. They said the Philippines should give respect to the press freedom.

Based on the report, US President Donal Trump and Rodrigo Duterte shared the same dislike towards the media.
