Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri Tasked to Lead the Abolition of Road Board
ROAD BOARD – Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri is set to lead the abolition of the Road Board.
Previously, there were corruption allegations regarding the fund of the Road Board. Allegedly, some congressmen are using the funds inappropriately.
The allegations were followed by the call to abolish the Board. Based on a recent report in Remate, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III tasked Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri to lead its abolition.
Sen. Sotto expressed that Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri must be able to convey to House Majority Leader Rolando Andaya the position of the Senate which is in favor of the resolution for the Road Board abolition.
Based on the report, Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri is set to have a meeting with House Majority Leader Rolando Andaya. In case they would arrive at an agreement, a bicameral conference committee might follow.
On the part of Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, he believes that there is no longer a need for a bicameral conference committee. According to him, the Senate has adopted it and should be submitted to the Palace.
Aside from the abolition of the board, Zubiri expressed that the Senate also wants the House Majority Leader to know its pursuit to transfer the funds of the board to the National Treasury.
Based on the report, around P12 billion may be collected yearly from the tax of road users and it can be used for the Universal Health Care Law or road projects.
