Authorities Arrested Kin of Leo Echegaray in Drug Buy-Bust Operation
LEO ECHEGARAY – Three(3) kin of the late Leo Echegaray were arrested by the authorities in a drug buy-bust operation in Quezon City.
One of the most controversial cases in the history of the Philippines is the case of Leo Echegaray. He was the first Filipino who was sentenced to death in 1993.
The death penalty was reinstated in the Philippines in 1993 and during that time, Echegaray was facing accusations of taking advantage of his 10-year-old daughter.
A Quezon City Court found Echegaray guilty and the case was reviewed by the Supreme Court. He filed a motion of appeal but it was denied and on February 1999, he faced the sentence which sparked debate.
Recently, the name of Leo Echegaray crossed the surface again following the arrest of his kin during a drug buy-bust operation conducted in Quezon City.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, three of Echegaray’s kin were arrested including his nephew alyas “Mario”.
Masambong Police Chief Supt. Rodrigo Soriano expressed that Mario is in the drug watch list of their station and the police were monitoring him. Three(3) others were also nabbed by the authorities aside from Echegaray’s kin.
Based on the report, the kin of Echegaray admitted that they are involved in the illegal act while the other persons arrested claimed that they only visited the house.
Aside from the 6 persons nabbed, four(4) other suspects of being involved in drugs were arrested at Mendez Street, Barangay Baesa.
