Siargao Islands Hit by 2 Earthquakes Today (January 7, 2019)

EARTHQUAKES – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded two(2) quakes in Siargao Islands today, January 7, 2019.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the latest quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Recently, Phivolcs recorded two(2) quakes in Siargao Islands, Surigao del Norte today, January 7, 2019. It was hit by earthquakes with magnitudes of 2.5 and 2.8.

Earthquakes

According to Phivolcs, the quakes that hit Siargao Islands in Surigao del Norte were all tectonic in origin.

The 2.5 magnitude quake that hit at 01:36:45 in the morning today was located at 09.82°N, 126.61°E – 050 km N 86° E of General Luna, Siargao Island. It has a 010 depth of focus.

The 2.8 magnitude quake was located 09.57°N, 125.99°E – 006 km S 22° E of Socorro, Siargao Islands and has a 001 km depth of focus. It occurred at 04:35:09 in the morning today.

On the latest bulletin released by Phivolcs, it is stated that no aftershock and damage caused by the quake are expected.
