JOE LAMANGAN CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT – The MMFF 2018 best director Joel Lamangan has a controversial statement after receiving award.

The winners for 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival have finally been announced and awarded. And the film “Rainbow’s Sunset” got the most number of awards during the “Gabi ng Parangal”.

8 OFFICIAL ENTRIES for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival are ONE GREAT LOVEMARY, MARRY ME , THE GIRL IN THE ORANGE DRESS, OTLUMRAINBOW’S SUNSETFANTASTICA, JACK EM POPOY, and AURORA.

The film “Rainbow’s Sunset” got the following awards:

  • Best Director: Joel Lamangan
  • Best Production Design
  • Best Original Theme Song: Sa’yo Na
  • Best Screenplay
  • Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award
  • Best Supporting Actor: Tony Mabesa
  • Best Supporting Actress: Aiko Melendez
  • Special Jury Prize: Max Collins
  • Special Jury Prize: Eddie Garcia
  • Best Picture
  • Best Actress: Gloria Romero

However, the director of the film which bagged the most awards Joel Lamangan has this sentiment after receiving his Best Director award and expressing his gratitude in recognizing his talent. In his speech, the director has said:

“Masarap na tanggapin ito pero may konting sakit din. Sakit dahil, masakit na nasa harapan mo na unti-unting tinatanggal sa sinehan ang pelikula mo. Mayron akong isang panalangin at pakiusap na sa susunod na mga panahon, kung ano ang napag-usapang numero ng mga sinehan na pagpapalabasan ay respetuhin at tangkilikin. Huwag nating ipagkait sa mga manunuod ang kanilang karapatang makanuod ng pelikula. Huwag lang nating isispin ang komersiyo. Ang pelikula kay isang sining at ang sining ay kaluluwa ng tao, kaluluwa ng bayan. Huwag lamang nating patabain ang bulsa ng lahat ng may-ari ng mga sinehan…”
