“Power naps” are the cause of Duterte ‘s absence in Asean meetings
President Rodrigo Duterte admitted that his “power naps” caused his absence in several Asean meetings.
In line with the criticisms about his naps, the Chief Executive of the Philippines said, “What’s wrong with my nap?”.
The President’s spokesman said that he missed four scheduled events on Wednesday because he was “catching up on sleep”, based on the BBC report.
Association of South East Asian Nations (Asean) meeting was held in Singapore. Leaders from other countries gathered there for this event.
On the other hand, Duterte was not able to attend all the events. This is due to his “power naps”.
Aside from this, there were also several international summits and events in the Philippines which were not graced by the President.
Previously, the health of the 73-year-old President has become a question to the public.
Communist leader Jose Ma. Sison stated that the darkening of Duterte’s face is caused by a serious disease.
The President slammed this statement from Sison.
It was also alleged that he has cancer. Through a medical examination, the Chief Executive disproved the previous claims about his health.
“He is cancer-free,” former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go told the reporters.
In line with his power naps amid various meetings, Spokesman Salvador Panelo said that Duterte was working late and has less than three hours to sleep.
He also clarified that the President’s health is not the factor behind his absence.
“The president’s constantly punishing work schedule is proof that he is in top physical shape,” the spokesman said.
Based on the report, when President Rodrigo Duterte was asked if he was fully rested after his nap, he answered, “still not good enough, but enough to sustain the endurance for the last days”.
