Filipino And Literature To Be Removed, Group Appeals

Group Appeals To The Decision Of Supreme Court Removing Filipino and Literature As Core Subjects.

FILIPINO AND LITERATURE – A group named Tanggol Wika asks the Supreme Court to reconsider the removing of Filipino and Literature in college.

Tanggol Wika convener David Michael San Juan said that aside the fact that there was no public hearing, the Court also did not consult the subject experts of the country. He further added that the two subjects must remain as core subjects, especially when it comes to lessons that must be learned in the highest level.

“Maraming bagay na mataas na antas ng diskurso na mas sa college matatalakay. Kagaya ng mga isyu sa lipunan, research sa sariling wika, sa college ‘yun mas magagawa,”

A report from ABS-CBN News states that the court issued a temporary restraining order on CHEd Memorandum Order No. 20, which removes Filipino and Literature as core subjects. However, after the SC declared the K-12 program constitutional last weekend, they automatically removed the temporary restraining order.

Dr. Bienvenido Lumbera from the National Artist of the Philippines, who is also one of the petitioners, said he was disappointed and outraged inwardly regarding the Court’s decision.

As per the report, San Juan feared that about 10,000 teachers of the two subjects will possibly lose their jobs due to the decision of the court. He further said that they still haven’t received the copy of the decision as this is what they need to file for reconsideration.
