The former research partner of Kapuso actress Mikee Quintos has this to say after she revived the past issue about their project.
In earlier years, a viral social media post sparked rumors that a celebrity student didn’t contribute to group academic work and was a “burden.” Many people assumed that it was Mikee Quintos, and later on, was confirmed. Clues such as an actress taking architecture at the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) all pointed to her.
The rumors about this surfaced in 2021, and recently, she brought the issue back to the limelight when she recalled some of her lowest moments.
She understood where they were coming from, but on her part, she failed to see their perspective. She was at fault for expecting that they understood the demands and nature of her job. She expressed that she could have been the bigger person, been more aware, and been more sensitive.
“Fault ko yun to expect na gets na nila yun. Dapat mas ako yung naging bigger person at mas naging aware ako, mas naging sensitive ako,” Quinto said about the thesis issue.
After her remarks caught attention online, her former thesis partner surfaced, the same person who posted her thoughts in the freedom wall that went viral. This person said that the issue actually stemmed from a minor paired research project, not a thesis.
Allegedly, Quintos contributed minimally to the work, prompting the classmate to complete most of the requirements, including formatting, printing, and defending the paper alone. The classmate furthered that this experience showed a pattern of privilege, citing Quintos’ decision to pursue a career in show business shortly after meeting the academic cutoff to continue in UST’s architecture program.
According to the post, she felt this had limited opportunities for waitlisted students and was perceived as unfair to classmates who consistently attended classes while balancing financial constraints.
While the poster had already moved on from the issue, she felt compelled to explain her side after the Kapuso actress addressed the matter publicly. The person is aware that because of her celebrity status, she set no expectation that it would affect Quintos’ career or public support.
