Wage Hike Of ₱25 Will Be In Effect On Nov. 27, 2018 (Tuesday)

The ₱25 Wage Hike For National Capital Region (NCR) Workers Will Take Effect In November 27 (Tuesday)

WAGE HIKE – The approved ₱25 Wage Hike for workers in the National Capital Region (NCR) will take effect in November 27 (Tuesday), says Bello.

Previously, the hike dismayed the Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP). Acording to them, the hike seems like it’s “plucked from the air”.

ALU-TUCP spokesperson Alan Tanjusay said that this will not help especially on poor workers who were given the minimum wage and will simply cause a widespread discontent from them.

The group called on the government to disband the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, in which it is composed of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE); National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA); Department of Trade and Industry (DTI); and representatives from worker and employer sectors.

Regardless, the approved hike will begin on November 27. Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III. He further said that this has to be published in a newspaper of general circulation.

A report from GMA News says that Bello said that the adjustment will begin 15 days after the approval by the National Wages and Productivity Commission.

The ₱25 wage increase, which includes a ₱10 increase in the cost of living allowance, was approved in November 5 (Monday).

As per the report, the new minimum wage will be from ₱500 to ₱537. The increase is way lower than the ₱334 ALU-TUCP petitioned, yet it’s closer to the P₱20 offer of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines..
