Residents Take Escaped Pigs From Overturned Truck in Bukidnon
BUKIDNON – Several residents take escaped hogs scattered around area from overturned truck instead of helping the driver.
On Monday, August 4, 2026, a livestock trader in Bukidnon lost hundreds of thousands of pesos after several pigs were reportedly taken by residents following a road accident involving a delivery truck.
The incident happened in Barangay Patpat, Malaybalay City. According to reports, a truck carrying nearly 200 live pigs lost control and overturned along the road. The crash caused many of the animals to escape and scatter around the area.
Instead of helping recover the pigs and assisting those affected by the accident, several people reportedly rushed to the area and caught some of the animals for themselves. Witnesses said the escaped pigs were taken away by different individuals, making it difficult for the owner to recover all of them.
The accident created confusion as the animals ran in different directions. Efforts to gather and secure the pigs became more challenging because some residents allegedly removed them from the area before they could be accounted for.
As a result, the owner is now worried about the financial impact of the incident. Losing several pigs could mean a significant setback for the business, especially considering the large number of animals being transported at the time of the crash.
The livestock owner has appealed to those who took the pigs to voluntarily return them. Doing so, he hopes, would help reduce the heavy losses caused by the accident and allow him to recover some of his investment.
Authorities also reminded the public that taking animals, cargo, or any property involved in an accident without permission is considered theft under the law. Officials stressed that items scattered or left behind because of an accident still belong to their rightful owner.
