Facebook Announces Up To 50 Million Accounts Breached In Attack Of Hackers

Facebook, one of the biggest social media websites worldwide announced that up to P50 million accounts were breached in the attack of hackers.

The social media giant discovered the breach allowing hackers to steal “access tokens” enabling them to access accounts.

Guy Rosen, the vice president of product management said that the hackers exploited the Facebook code’s vulnerability.

Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive of Facebook said that the breach has been discovered on Tuesday (September 25) and patched it on Thursday evening (September 27).

Facebook temporarily shut down the “view as” feature as precautionary measures due to the breaching incident.

“We face constant attacks from people who want to take over accounts or steal information around the world,” Zuckerberg said.

Zuckerberg also said that the company will continue to develop new tools to prevent those types of incident.

The social media company also made an additional precautionary step by resetting the access tokens of another 40 million vulnerable accounts.

Rosen also apologized to the public and promised to improve people’s security to avoid such incidents.

“People’s privacy and security is incredibly important, and we’re sorry this happened,” Rosen said.
