Over 6,000 Tourists Are Only Allowed On The Reopening Of Boracay Island

Boracay will only allow more than 6,000 tourists on the upcoming reopening of the country’s most popular tourist destination.

Malacañang Palace announced that only 6, 405 tourists were allowed per day to visit the famous island of Boracay after its reopening on October 26, 2018.

The Palace considers the recommendation of Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force to limit the number of tourists on the island.

The agency explained that the famous haven could only accommodate 19,215 individual including its population, workers, and the proposed limit of only 6,405 tourists per day.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that there’s an excess in existing population, non-tourists on the island.

Malacañang also accepts the group’s recommendation to evaluate the possible use of extra available rooms, use of wetlands on filtering waste, minimizing open space for vegetation, reducing the causes of pollution, minimizing soil erosion, and implementation of info campaign on proper waste disposal.

Aside from limiting the number of tourists, the Department of the Interior and Local Government officer-in-charge Eduardo Año prohibits noisy parties including “LaBoracay”.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat also prohibits smoking and drinking on the white beach of the popular tourist spot.
